Have your say about medical research
Patient and public involvement in research (also known as user involvement) means that research staff work in partnership with patients and members of the public with the aim of developing research that is relevant and beneficial to patients.
Many of our research themes and studies involve patients, their family members and carers to help researchers design and carry out the research as well as being instrumental in how we communicate our research findings to patient groups and the public.
We feel it is important that we listen to people with personal experience of the conditions we are investigating; to find out what is important to patients and their families and how translational research can help.
You can find out more about our patient and public involvement activities here.
Are you interested in being a patient or public representative?
We are looking for patients and members of the public to help us with our research. This does not mean we want you take part in a study as a research participant; instead we want your experience and opinion to inform the research we carry out.
You don’t need any particular knowledge or skills, just a willingness to give your opinion and the desire to get involved. There are many different ways of being involved from reviewing documents to sitting on one of our research advisory panels.
We offer training and support to help you get to grips with research, and opportunities to work in partnership with researchers and clinicians and develop new skills and knowledge.
We run a free training day where you can learn more about the research and being a patient or public representative.
