Who can use the facility?
The flow cytometry equipment in the BRC core laboratory is open for use for members of the BRC's Faculty of Translational Medicine, King's College London investigators and external users.
Priority access to instrumentation and sorting time slots is given to members of the BRC's Faculty of Translational Medicine and researchers within the BRC themes and cross cutting disciplines.
External users will not be given independent access to the BRC core lab instrumentation and cannot obtain training.
All instruments can be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis via online calendars. You can access these calendars on the relevant instrument webpages once you have registered to use the facilities.
Opening hours and staff support
The facility is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The flow cytometry laboratory staff are available Monday to Friday from 9am - 5pm. For out of hour and weekend usage all users must abide to the Trust lone worker policy.
Users will obtain carded access to the BRC flow lab which must be authorised by
Susanne Heck, Tel 020 7188 1184 or
Jo Studham, manager of the clinical research facilities, Tel: 020 7188 8077.
Access to user operated instruments
All users wishing to use the BD analysers on their own, must first attend our basic training course. Once this training has been completed, a user name and password will be issued which allows timeslots to be booked on the instrument calendars.
Access to the BRC ARIA 1 sorter will be given only to advanced users that have undergone BD ARIA operator training and in prior agreement with the flow cytometry laboratory staff.
To use the Luminex FlexMap3D users will have to complete online training and a brief introduction to using the instrument, provided by flow cytometry laboratory staff. To use the Amnis ImageStreamX users can book training with the flow core staff. Please email
Susanne Heck to arrange a time for these training classes.
Access to operator-run instruments
The BRC ARIA 2 and BRC Influx sorter are exclusively operated by flow cytometry laboratory staff. To book sorting time on these instruments please email a completed sort booking form to
BRCFlowCore@gstt.nhs.uk.
Flow cytometry laboratory staff will assign sorting times, and users will be able to see (but not book or alter) the schedule of the ARIA 2 and Influx sorters.
